The Internet: Man’s Gift to Mankind

For those born before the age of internet, remembering what those stone ages were like is difficult. How could human beings manage? While the internet has made our lives easier, here are a few reasons why living in the age of internet is truly better.

1. Who’s that actor? – Remember those days when you would see an actor in a movie, and spend the next six days beating your brains trying to figure out what else you’d seen him in? Thanks to the wonder of the “Internet Movie Database” at IMDB.com, you can shorten those days to mere minutes, and move on with your life.

2. What’s that song? – Did you ever hear an exciting new song on the radio and barely miss hearing the artist and title? Like looking up that bothersome actor, looking up lyrics can easily give you the artist, title, and even samples of the song you simply have to have. iTunes and Amazon make it even easier: you can own this new song in seconds.

3. Should I buy this? – For those with shopper’s remorse, the internet has brought a new means of making purchases: the online shopping cart. Be it Amazon, Target, or your local cupcake shop, you can place items in your cart and leave them there for months while you decide if you truly need to make this purchase.

4. How do I get there? – Although Google Maps and MapQuest may have been somewhat unreliable at first, there is hardly a day that goes by without a need to use these sites. Whether you are looking for the nearest post office, a new delicious restaurant, or your friend’s house, you can find it all. In fact, having these sites available has not only made things easier; it has actually changed our sense of what is polite as a host and guest: it is almost bad manners nowadays to ask for directions at all when you can just “googlemaps” it.

With the revolution of changes that the internet has brought us, let’s be thankful for these few little benefits.
